Selective Pairing
Our breeding program is built on selective pairing, genetic awareness, limited litters, individual kitten evaluation, and ethical placement practices.
Our standards are built around responsible breeding, realistic transparency, and placement practices that protect the lifelong well-being of every kitten.
Our breeding program is built on selective pairing, genetic awareness, limited litters, individual kitten evaluation, and ethical placement practices.
We prioritize veterinary preparation, preventive care, and testing for known Maine Coon HCM mutations as part of a broader health-focused program.
Genetics is complex. Testing helps reduce hereditary risk, but no breeder can promise zero lifetime risk. Our approach is informed, transparent, and responsible.
We do not rush placements. We place intentionally, with attention to temperament, home environment, and the long-term fit between kitten and family.
Hypertrophic cardiomyopathy is one of the most discussed health concerns in Maine Coons. At Harpies Shadow, we test for known HCM mutations, avoid breeding high-risk combinations, and use pedigree and health history as part of responsible decision-making.
Each kitten is examined by a licensed veterinarian prior to placement, receives age-appropriate vaccinations, is dewormed, microchipped, and leaves with a veterinary passport.
Pet-quality kittens are spayed or neutered prior to placement as part of our commitment to responsible ownership and breed integrity.
We reserve the right to decline placement if we do not feel a home is the right fit. Our responsibility is not just to place kittens, but to place them well.
The goal is a safe, stable, and loving lifelong home where the kitten can thrive.
